GHG premiums for electric scooters and electric motorcycles 2022 

In principle, any owner of a purely electrically powered vehicle subject to registration can apply for a GHG premium. 

This also applies to all owners of electric scooters and electric motorcycles. 

For electric scooters that only have an insurance license plate, a voluntary registration, i.e. a vehicle registration certificate, Part 1, must be applied for at the vehicle registration office. 

What do I have to consider for the THG premium? 

The THG premium is a year-round premium. Applications and payments are made for the entire calendar year and are valid from January to December of the year in question. 

The application for the GHG premium must be submitted separately for each calendar year. This can be done for 1 year or for several years at the same time. 

What is the procedure from application to payment? 

Once you have submitted your application, we check that your data is complete and send it to the Federal Environment Agency. 

Every year, the Federal Environment Agency re-checks the eligibility for the GHG bonus for each vehicle. 

Your GHG quota may only be marketed, i.e. sold, once a positive decision has been received. With our option model, you benefit directly from the proceeds from the sale of your quota. This is based on the current status on the day of sale. Everything is billed transparently and we retain a 15% processing fee for our above-mentioned expenses. 

In short: 

We take care of the processing of your submitted data in cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency, customs, and the bundled sale to mineral oil companies. After that is complete, you receive your payout.  

Can the 2022 GHG premium also be applied for retroactively 

Yes, because the deadline for applying for the 2022 GHG premium is 28.02.2023. 

All applications received by the Federal Environment Agency by this deadline have the opportunity to receive the 2022 GHG premium. 

How high is the 2022 GHG premium? 

The GHG premium depends on the payout option you choose. 

You can choose between the immediate premium, the fixed amount and the flexible rate. 

The immediate premium and the fixed rate are fixed, guaranteed premiums. With the flexible tariff, the specific premium amount is determined by the market value of the GHG quota at the current time. This is based on supply and demand in GHG quota trading with companies subject to quota obligations. 

The CO2 value set by the legislator for two-wheelers is 0.862 tons of CO2 for the 2022 premium year. 

How long does the process take? 

The instant premium will be transferred to you within 24 hours. We will make the advance payment for you and the entire GHG premium processing procedure will then take place afterwards. As a precaution, we would like to point out that if your application is rejected by the Federal Environment Agency, you will have to repay the immediate premium. 

The total processing time for the selected fixed tariff and flex tariff premiums is approx. 12-16 weeks. As soon as the process is completed and we have the money from marketing, the GHG premium will be transferred to you immediately.
